Masaaki Kohagura Kyoshi, 8th Dan
(September 13, 1940 — March 4, 2026)
Born in Shuri, Okinawa in 1940, Masaaki Kohagura Sensei began his Karate journey in 1956. As a young man, he worked as a radio operator on deep-sea fishing vessels, surviving two shipwrecks before being assigned to Cuba in 1964.
In 1967, Kohagura Sensei began teaching Karate to seven local youths. These dedicated students would later be celebrated as the “Seven Samurai of Cuban Karate-Do,” forming the very foundation of Karate in Cuba. He imparted not only physical techniques but also the true spirit of Matsubayashi-Ryu, faithfully passing down the teachings of Founder Shoshin Nagamine O’Sensei.
After returning to Japan, he continued his relentless training and established the WMKA Tokai Branch in 1986, which was elevated to the Tokai District Headquarters in 2008. Remaining deeply faithful to the teachings of Founder Shoshin Nagamine and 2nd Soke Takayoshi Nagamine, Kohagura Sensei dedicated his life to the promotion of Matsubayashi-Ryu. He was awarded the rank of Kyoshi 8th Dan in 2010.
In recognition of his monumental contributions, Kohagura Sensei was awarded the “Friendship Medal” by Cuban President Fidel Castro in 2001. His legacy goes beyond martial arts, leaving a permanent mark on the history of international friendship between Japan and Cuba.
We thank Kohagura Sensei for all his immeasurable contributions to Matsubayashi-Ryu and his lifelong dedication to crossing oceans and walking the path of Karate. He will never be forgotten in the history of the WMKA.
小波藏 政昭 教士八段

1940年に沖縄県首里市で生まれた小波藏政昭先生は、1956年に空手の道を歩み始めました。若くして遠洋漁業の通信士として海へ出た先生は、二度の遭難から生還するという過酷な経験を経て、1964年にキューバへ赴任されました。
1967年、小波藏先生は現地で7名の若者に空手の指導を開始しました。彼らは後に「キューバ空手道七人の侍」と称され、キューバにおける空手道の源流となりました。先生の指導は単なる技術の伝授にとどまらず、長嶺将真先生から受け継いだ松林流の精神そのものを伝えるものでした。
帰国後も絶え間なく鍛錬を続けられ、1986年にWMKA東海支部を開設。2008年には東海地区本部へと昇格しました。長嶺将真初代宗家、長嶺高兆二代宗家の教えを忠実に守りながら、国内外における松林流の普及発展に生涯を捧げられ、2010年に教士八段を取得されました。
キューバにおける多大なる貢献が讃えられ、2001年にはキューバ国家評議会議長フィデル・カストロ氏より「友好メダル」を授与されました。その足跡は武道家の枠を超え、日本とキューバの国際交流史に深く刻まれています。
海を越え、空手の道を貫かれた小波藏政昭先生の、松林流に対する計り知れないご貢献に深く感謝申し上げます。先生の功績は、WMKAの歴史の中で永遠に語り継がれることでしょう。
